CMPD Had an interesting pursuit tonight.
We had an interesting pursuit tonight. Around 2100 hours, Charlie-2 (district) had a Robbery from person/larceny of auto (Charlotte has no carjackings;) ). Around 2230 hours, a Charlie-2 officer by some odd chance (it is a very populated district) pulls behind that same vehicle. And of course, they don't stop.
Well the unit isn't in a pursuit yet, they're simply behind a vehicle that isn't stopping. Calling out speed/cross streets, but not "10-43" (vehicle pursuit). He calls up for the Sgt, who gives permission to go 43 because the subjects are considered a danger to life (we don't go 43 very often, we have very strict requirements after a chase that ended with a bystander family getting killed).
SHP gets behind us as well, and we let them take over the chase (and any liability that goes with a chase).
So they start calling speeds, cross streets. At one point they call out "Bacon at Roselyn, 93 mph" , and then frantically "pedestrian struck Bacon and Roselyn" ...we're all thinking this dude is pavement pizza (and that our department will never be allowed to chase again period), so I call medic and get them enroute....meanwhile the perps don't even slow down.....
Of course the chase ends with the suspects flipping the stolen vehicle, and running off....when I left work K-9 was tracking them.
And the pedestrian was transported non-life threatening. God didn't want him home yet, I guess...
Anyways, not amazingly abnormal, but interesting night to say the least. And of course as soon as they went 10-43, another district had a jump-and-run, and another district had a unit behind a stolen vehicle....it had been quiet tonight up to then.
