Credit Card fraud, it CAN happen to you.

I just got my statement today on my Disney Visa and some low life ordered 3 Ipods last month and liked me enough to use my CC # !!!

Have you been to any restraunts lately where they take your card away from the table? I've always been leery of that happening to me. Regardless, I hope it gets settled quickly and that they catch the guy. :(

They immediately closed my account, have new cards enroute within 5 days, will send me an affidavit of fraud which I have to sign and return within 15 days. And , they are contacting Apple Computer to see the who, what , when where. Overall, they were very nice and the whole thing went smoothly.

I last used this card on the phone in Jan ( internet purchase expect I ordered by phone) and have another card I use for day to day stuff.

I do not fear credit card fraud. Taking care of that is relatively painless. It is Identity Theft that I fear.

Several years ago I saw a charge for about 80 bucks on my Visa and only an 800 number was listed. I called it and after verbally wrangling with this idiot kid, I finally found out they sold housewares. I asked my wife if she'd bought anything and she said no. I checked the CC acct again on the net and saw that 1200 bucks had been charged to a Honda dealer in the Bay area.

I contacted VISA and they were great. They reversed the charges immediately, cancelled the CC and sent me another. They also sent me an affidavit to sign. A woman called from VISA a week or so later and asked me if I had a daughter in CA. Actually I did, but she was in Ventura and not the one buying stuff. That was the last I heard about it. I was definitely impressed by the way VISA handled it.

But that's why I download my VISA and American Express accounts daily into Quicken to see what's being charged.

But I have no idea how she got my number. At least with the security codes, it's a little harder. My VISAs are now set up so that if I try to charge anything on the net, I get a popup asking for a PIN.

I do the same thing, download my cc activity daily into MS money. Eventually (after everything is paid off), I'm going to be down to 2 cc's, a discover & a visa/MC, nothing else. There's no reason to have more than 2 cards.

Did you pull your credit report? I would just as a safety measure. Sorry to hear about that.

Yeah, I have two, a United Airlines Visa that gives me air miles and an American Express that gives me a cash rebate. I pay them off every month and never carry a balance so I don't care what the interest rate is.
