Is it worth getting a PDA?

I was considering getting a PDA for work, and was wondering if anyone could recommend one to me. I want something that I can enter lots of notes into, and then reference quickly. I would primarily be using it to replace several binders of information I currently use regularly when referencing policy and procedure manuals, law text books and sections of the Criminal Code of Canada as well as provincial statutes, bylaws and regulations.

I am looking for a very basic (ie: inexpensive) model for this purpose, and don't need any extra frills such as wireless internet, cell phone, camera etc. I was talking to a nurse at the hospital who uses a Palm Z22, but also said that some of the med students use a Palm One Zire 31.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether either of these would be suitable for my purpose, or is there perhaps another model I should research?

My girlfriend has a Dell one that she loves and my sister has a Palm with all the bells which she loves. I have played around with both and personally like the dell one better I think it is easier to use, but that is just my opinion.

I do like the idea of having all that information on a PDA. I like technology better then paper. Search functions are great.

I have a dell axim and have a lot of information stored in mine. Have both the traffic and criminal law for Illinois as well as all ordinances for the town. Plus all of my contact information. I prefer the pocket pc based over palm but just my preference. YMMV

I am attached to my PDA. DO a search, there have been a couple of threads about them here with lots of useful information.

I have a Dell Axim (pocket PC). Very nice for carrying the MI penal code, etc. I keep notes on it, contacts, and some excel templates I find useful. I personally prefer pocket pc's over Palms, having worked on both, but your milleage may vary.

There are some neat pocket pc / phone / camera combinations available if you look hard.

From my experience, I like the format of the pocket PC operating program a lot better than palm's system. The pocket PC system is very similar to the windows system, and their programs are almost indentical, which makes it wicked easy to transfer a microsoft Word file from you PC to your pocket PC. (or any other windows files, like WMA, etc..)

Just go to your local electronics store and try the demo models to see which one you prefer, its mostly a matter of personal taste.

I have a Treo 650 as well..... I love it to death. I sync it with my laptop in the car and with my laptop at home. It does everything!

I have a Palm Zire 72. I love it. I have the local codes and some of our more common state codes in it. I use the calendar for court and set the alarm as a reminder. They are very helpful. I have even used the camera when the batteries were dead on the one I had in my cruiser. I can sync it with my home computer or my workstation at the PD. They are worth the money if you ask me.

I, personally, have a Palm Pilot which is awesome.

However, there are now PDA's in use with PD's that can do almost anything from writing a report to running warrant checks.
