...before I go to bed. Been doing 10 hour night shifts for the Commonwealth Games and it's past my bed time, but I had to share this quick story. It's just too funny to keep in-house.
...as I mentioned, I've been doing night shift in the CBD for the Games. From where we had been staging from there is a 24 hour McDonald's just over the road. Its just after 5am and me and another guy just got a breakfast and were heading back to our semi-warm portable office. As we're crossing the road, some guy who had been talking to a girl (not a cop) who was setting up barricades for the marathon, looked at us and started running away. We asked the girl what he'd done and she said nothing that she knew of, just saw us and started running.
He was clearly drunk from his staggered running style. Having already locked up 3 drunks that night, I thought I'd mess with this guy a bit. (yeah, yeah, I'm evil. Sue me. :p )
He ran for a bit then walked, but kept looking over his shoulder at us. We decided to walk towards him, just to see what he'd do. Well, we closed the distance a little bit and he started running again. This time, he didn't stop. He just kept running, across the road and looking over his shoulder at us every few steps. We just kept walking at a steady pace. It's 5am and there was no traffic because all the roads into the city had been blocked or I would've put an end to our shenanigans there and then.
He was so intent on seeing what we were doing that when he got onto the footpath on the other side of the road he kept running and SMACK! into the wall of a building. :D
It didn't even slow him down. He ran (staggered) off around the corner, still running as if the devil himself were after him.
I figured that was punishment enough that he didn't need to be slotted for 4 hours so we let him go. On top of that, we had hot food to eat and I couldn't have run after him even if I wanted to since I was laughing so much.
I love drunks. I am so easily amused.
