    Toughbook question?

I've had a Panasonic Toughbook issued to me for several years. The model I had was the CF-28. It was a good machine, and had a backlit keyboard.

Recently, I.T. replaced it with a newer model, the CF-29. It's better/faster/brighter and I'm finding my way around it. (Typing on it now from my living room couch via the slick onboard wireless WLAN!)

The only problem is that either the keyboard is not backlit, or I can't figure out how to turn it on. Kind of irratating as it's my MCT too...

Can anyone tell me how to toggle on the keyboard backlight, if there is one???

    Thanks!

My keys are backlit but I can't remember if I made it do that or it did it on it's own.
I *think* they get brighter as you increase the screen brightness with the Function key depressed and using the brightness key (somewhere up top).
If no one else answers before tomorrow I'll run down and look at mine.

Thanks, sbrad. I tried that to no avail.

I also went into the windows control panel, and checked the keyboard and display functions. Didn't work either. I've also looked for a hard switch on the computer somewhere. If it's there, they hid it well...

My CF-28 had rubber keys. Kind of a one a one piece rubber sheet with raised bumps for keys, if that makes sense. The new CF-29 has a more standard type keyboard, like you would find on a regular laptop.

Much nicer to type with, but impossible to see in my car at night...

I am almost positive the CF-29 keyboard is backlit. Maybe try emailing the support department

Thanks CJ, I checked the faq, and they didn't have the CF-29 listed. Sent their tech support an email.

I also called our I.T. guy, and got a blank look...

Go to the computer store and buy a backlit keyboard and plug it in and set it on top of the keyboard, maybe velcro it there.

Or get an external red tactical light, like a booklight, and mount it on the side of the thing lighting up the keyboard.

I hear ya Valor. There are any number of ways I could "Make it light up". Right now I'm just turning on the passanger reading lamp in my unit to see the keyboard.

It works, but if the thing is backlit, like the old one was, I would just like to be able to turn it on...

Not sure which notebooks we have in our cars, but we push the Function button (Fn) and F5 or F8 to turn on the keyboard backlight.

I've tried every Fn, Ctrl, Alt, Ins, Del and Windows key and combination of them I can think of.

This bugger still refuses to give me some light...

Thanks for the help guys, but I'm thinking my old Chicklet keyboard had something going on that this upgrade doesn't.:(

On my CF-28 you have to hold down the Fn key and press F12 (I think) to get the backlight on.
