    Finally the finish line

Well not quite, but stage 1 complete. I had my final interview with the Chief today and was hired. I start Monday 8:00AM til the academy starts on July 11th. For those of you that don't know I applied with the Columbus, GA Police Department. I can't wait to start on Monday. I have no idea what I will be doing on Monday, but I assume learning how to right or file reports or working the dreaded infor mation counter. How many of you have been hired weeks before starting the academy. Also if you were what did you do till the academy started.

I was hired about a month before the academy. ( 1986) I rode with my "FTO" for 2 weeks in uniform-weapon etc and than was out by myself for another two weeks before going to the academy. I did have prior service in the military police but civilian police is a whole new world. Anyway, they changed thel law here now so no officer can take any official action until after they have been through the academy. Our academy is 5 months.

Wow 5 months is long. Our academy in 9 weeks, but then there is a 10 week in house academy after that. So all together about 19 weeks of training, plus FTO training.

Batman was hired on with a Georgia (city) unit. He went through the Georgia PEACE academny in Savannah, it was a 5 month course as well. Is that where you are going? Good luck and congratulations!!

Well I was hired on friday and had to report on monday.
Congrats on the job, but I can say that if your acadmey is anything like ours, you will not be learning anything on the first day, except maybe how red the instructors face can get lol. They picked us apart the first day and gave us our rules and tought us how to yell " YES SIR/MAM" Our acadmey is very Military they didn't joke around, it was intimidating. Our's is 9 months long.

Our academy in Columbus is taught primarily in a class room enviroment. Lots and lots of books to learn, and laws to remember. Then after the academy we have a 9 week in service program, where you get some first hand real police work experience. Our academy starts this Thursday, but for now we are learning how to handle, clean, and assemble disassemble our firearms. I can't wait.

    Lusebucks.
I just finished my first week in the GA academy in Rome.
Yours *should* be 10 weeks, not nine (404 hours). See if you can find a copy of O.C.G.A and study Georgia law...especially the assaults and thefts. It takes a bit of studying to learn the difference between the assaults and batteries, and our instructors have told us this is generally the hardest parts for students.
    Good luck.

I had to go to the Law Enforcement Academy and then find a job. Around my area, you go through the academy first and then find a job.

    Congrats! And Good Luck!
