actually solving cases. FBI ? Police ? USMS

How much actual detective work is there in the FBI, Police (as a detective) or USMS. By "detective work", I mean time spent solving/figuring out crimes (NOT white collar crimes, which, I hear (to my disappointment) is much of what the FBI handles). I think I have asked something similar before, but I never got a straight answer before the thread (and my old acct) was deleted in a computer screw up.
    thanks,

While working at the city level as a narcotics investigator, I recall Batman doing a lot of surveillance and undercover work. It took up a lot of time (overtime). We're talking open of shift to close of shift (or beyond) doing surveillance/undercover work. Each case would vary on how long it would take (for obvious reasons).

As an officer working for the Park Service, he did quite a few poaching cases which were federal offenses because it was done on government land, along with resource protection issues. Within the park we have a ton of archaeological "dig" sites with a lot of artifacts and relics that can be stolen and sold for a hoop of cash. Along with every other crime on Park grounds, it's a federal offense. Some of these cases would be worked for weeks at a time depending on how good the "lead" was and how much information they had to allow them to feasibly work the case.

Also, depending on the location of the Park (ie. in relation to County, State, or local agencies) he would assist with their cases.

Feds dont do any real investigations. Only the local "city" type detectives do any actual detecting or investigating.

I agree (partially) with that statement Tx. I would just add that the officers (fed or local level) both can do hard investigation if their jurisdiction is within a city. For instance, Park Police works hard investigations because they are in some of the worst sections of the busiest cities of our country (San Francisco, DC, New York). Batman only got involved in serious cases in West Virginia because the park has a city within its' boundaries. Even down here, he doesn't do any investigations because he only deals with tourists and illegal immigrants (which get handed over to Customs), because there's no city here. Even the drug trafficking issues get turned over to DEA.

I agree with you, but I think there are exceptions. As always, this is based on my experience as a wife.

I figured you meant it as a joke because of your "smilie" and remark at the bottom of the post, but there is some truth to the statement which is why I replied.
