    Becoming an officer

    Hi all,

Don't know if you can help me. I've been wanting to become a police officer for years here in New Zealand. I've had a couple of women on the force come and talk to me about it, as my grandmother runs a family home for youth at risk, so does know people on the force and arranged visits for me. My problem is about the eye sight part. I think my eye sight is worse than the minimum visual standard of 6/12 unaided in each eye. We will be getting my eye sight checked by a doctor shortly just to be sure but I'm almost positive it's worse. I can't really afford laser surgery at this point in time, but I'm certain that this is the career path I want to take. Is there some other way to go about this? Does the police force offer some way of loaning the money to get it corrected then paying back via working or something? I dated a cop briefly, and he said that could be done, but I'm not too sure if he was only being encouraging or not.

    Thanks for any help whatsoever.

    Jasmine

I can only speak for the UK and I know that no police force would offer to pay for someones eye surgery regardless of when they needed it.
A snout has told me he's got a set of nostrils, so go and get a W so we can spin his drum to see if he's got any monkey gear - The Sweeney.

Okay, thank you, that's what I thought. Now I guess I'd better find something to do to save up in the meantime!
