We have the S.T.E.P. Grant that funds our Seatbelt/Speeder-DWI program. They like us to stop 3-4 cars an hour to make sure we aren't getting paid time and a half for being lazy. Thats just a guideline. No where did it say we must cite every violation though.

Leui-we did some PM'ing back and forth on the subject earlier but I too have slept. I didn't forget though as I look to your posts for information and advice. FYI I let that supervisor thing just blow over. I vented to my wife and partner and dropped it. thanks again.

no prob moe. just out of curiosity, for the officers allowed to stop for no seatbelt as a primary offense, how much do you find is actually wrong after making that kind of stop? if you find drugs, is it normally an issue as to being a pretext stop?
I do what I can do when I can do it.

    secondary crap

In Colorado it is a secondary offense and it SUCKS. I see dozens of drivers cruising past talking on cell phones without seatbelts. Two factors which lead not only to crashes, but crashes involving injuries. It is pretty rare to pull a buckled corpse out of a wreck.

My state sucks for road safety. The state govt recently turned down a proposal to reduce the BA level to .08 from .1. Their ignorance cost the state $50 million in federal funds. What's going to deter the DUIs, the potholes?

It's amazing what eye-sight some of the officers have ... One officer in particular is down right inhuman ... I was on a ride along with him and it was a dog shift and he was spotting people without seatbelts left and right ...

It takes practice, but I was doing 30 and the oncoming car was doing 30. She has a maroon colored seatbelt with the crome buckle. I could see it dangling as we passed. The driver said there was no way I could tell.

Ofcourse, after I made my U-turn and got behind her I verified there was no shoulder strap and she still didn't have it on when I approached the car.
