    I didn't do it!

So... I meet a uniformed officer (I work drugs and am in plain clothes) for a bite to eat at a local restaurant . Immediately upon entering, some ***-hat throws his hands in the air and tells the uniformed officer, "I didn't do it." For some reason, he thought it would be funny to use this clever line. In all my years as a cop, I've had to listen to this stupid line more times than I can count. Why is it that people think they're so witty?
For you civilians who wish to address a cop... a simple "hi" will suffice. We'll likely respond with, "hi, how are you?" If you insist on trying to be stupidly witty, don't hold a negative opinion of us if we reply in kind. This ends my rant.

When someone says that, just reply:

"Ya mean, graduate from high school??"

    OR

My mother's family is peppered with self-proclaimed wits. I'll admit that much of what they say and even more of what they do is hysterical. This is something that someone would try. My father would then die of embarrassment.

It reminds me of my uncle. One time, passing through the state line check between California and Arizona he decided to be a smart aleck. Just as he drove within hearing of the attendents, he shouted out the window to the sailboat he was pulling behind him, "All right you guys, GET DOWN".

The attendents were unamused. They made him exit the vehicle and searched it within an inch of it's life. Two hours later he was told he could continue.

He learned a lesson in when it's appropriate to joke and when it isn't.

What I would have given to see his face when they began searching.

I feel you pain. During our annual 4 day drunk fest, of which i'm on foot patrol for about 10 hours a day, I probably hear this idiotic line about 500 times. :(

More good responses to "I didn't do it," as well as any responses to when they point out someone they're with and say "He did it, that guy's the one you're looking for."

This "line" is in alot of police humor jokes and at the top of the list at that because it's so old and widely used. I'm trying to find you this one passage where an LEO explains it in a really hilarious way, he goes on to tell people how dumb they actually sound when they say it. :D It's funnier then hell. I'll post it when I find it.

You Might Be a Cop if...

    • people shout, "I didn't do it!" when you walk into a room.
    • your idea of a good time is an armed robbery at shift change.
    • you disbelieve 90% of what you hear and 75% of what you see.
    • you believe the government should require a permit to reproduce.
    • you believe prozac should be added regularly to the water system.
    • when you mention vegetables, you're not referring to the food group.
    • you want to hold a seminar entitled "Suicide - getting it right the first time."
    • you call for a criminal record check on anyone who seems friendly toward you.
    • you believe anyone who says, "I only had two beers" is going to blow over 150.
    • you walk into places and people think it's high comedy to seize a co-worker and shout, "They've come to get you...".
A message for our criminals from God:

    http://www.horizonsnet.org/sermons/rom41.html
    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...20&version=49;

13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.

13:2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.

We do a lot of Tavern Checks being that it is a college town. My first time going into the bar in uniform, I was asked about 10 times by people, "Hey can you card me?" I would just reply with a simple "No." The people I wanted to card were the ones who walked away quickly when they saw me or set their cups down real quick.
"Fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that...for one chance...just ONE CHANCE to come back here to tell our enemy that they may take our lives, but they will never take OUR FREEDOM!!!"
