A local TV station here runs scams with these guys. Somebody at the station poses as a young girl and eventually invites them to her "house". When they knock on the door, they get the full blast of a TV camera in their face with a reporter chasing them asking them questions about why they want to me a 12 year old girl.......

I am glad they are around. It is something that I would love to get involved in this. The last MSNBC special they had was amusing, I watched it twice.

I suspect they are more interested in maintaining the rogue image they have. I think they like saying that police don't do anything and won't work with them and they are the sole guardians of the Internet. :rolleyes:

Nice intentions and all, but that sounds a bit too dangerous to be sensible in my opinion. When you corner someone in a situation like that, where they're desperate to keep the information secret, you never know what some psycho might do.

NBC 10 in Philadelphia did one of these sting things about a year or so ago. The neighbors in the area hit the roof when they found out what happened.

Newtown Residents Air Concerns Over Internet Predators Story

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Some Newtown Township residents are outraged over an NBC 10 News report exposing potential child predators.

In a report that first aired March 3, NBC 10 employees went undercover and confronted three men who thought they were going to a Newtown Township home to meet a 14-year-old girl.

Town residents are demanding action. NBC 10 News stood by its story, issuing this statement:

"In covering this story, NBC 10 believes that no one was put in danger and the station conducted itself responsibly. NBC 10 never published the address of the house online, nor did we mention the township in our report."

Around 300 residents gathered Tuesday night at the community center over the issue.

"Our children were outside when Channel 10 was chasing one of these pedophiles down the street. They could not have only taken one of our children, they could have dragged one of our children over," said Debbie Schroeder, of Newtown Township.


"As a father, it's an image I will never, ever be able to remove from my memory. The fact that my son was subjected to this and my nephew was subjected to this. I will never be able to forget it," said Burt Lawley, also of Newtown Township.

While the station maintains the project was undertaken to raise awareness of child predators lurking on the Internet, residents and officials were not accepting that explanation.

"No child should ever be at risk for a news story or ratings," said Linda Houldin, township supervisor.

WCAU-TV representative Jo Anne Wilder offered a statement at the meeting.

"We at NBC 10 deeply care about the community we serve, which is why we decided to help raise awareness about the dangers of predators lurking on the Internet," Wilder said.

Michael Green, the Delaware County district attorney, told the people at the meeting that NBC 10 would be turning over the information he has been seeking.

"NBC intends to provide my office this information as soon as possible, even as early as tomorrow," Green said.

"I don't really give a damn about WCAU. My biggest concern is where are these predators and are they around our children?" said Stephanie Caiazzo, a concerned resident.

The district attorney said that one subject of the investigation is in the Army and stationed in Aberdeen, Md.

"He has been arrested, has been charged, and as I understand it is facing a court martial and a dishonorable discharge," Green said.

Green said he hopes to pursue charges against the other two men seen in the report when he gets the information he is seeking.

Honestly, our 'local' (120 miles away) nightly news has a segment EVERY night showing where the sex offenders are living and how many in a house and how close to a school and and and...

Honestly, I get sick of it. I have gotten to the point where I turn it off the second that stuff begins. I know there are creeps out there. I've been to our state's website and know exactly where each 'registered' one lives. Those are the ones I DONT worry about. Those are the ones that I can be sure of. I really get tired of hearing about where they are and how many of their cronies live with them.

I like the idea of catching those that ARENT known... sting operations are delicate things I imagine. I bet these people doing this are having fun and really doing a good service but I am curious about something.

Officers, how do you feel about this? Are your own investigations ever jeopardized by this kind of thing? Or am I misunderstanding what they're doing. I kind of get the idea this is a 'Cheaters' but criminal style. Set em up, and nab em... as a civilian.
