    Kayaking

My husband and I have just recently gotten into kayaking. He fishes. The fishing is ok with me but I just like paddling around.

Is anyone else into kayaking? If so, what kind of kayaking do you do...fishing, white water, touring? Is anyone else in the Northeast Florida area?

Shebear, my husband is a serious kayaker (and fisherman). I don't recall him doing any rivers in the southeast, but he has a wealth of knowledge in whitewater kayaking.

He generally uses Dagger, but the last boat he bought was a New Wave squirt boat. He has a Perception also, and I've never heard any complaints. He loves to kayak, but he hasn't done it since we left Washington State....wait, he's surfed the ocean recently. Just email him, he'll answer all your questions. What are you guys using? Is your husband fly-fishing?

Island_Girl-- My husband has an ocean kayak(Drifter). He doesn't fly- fish he mostly fishes in the nassau sound and the Timuquan reserve. These are salt and brackish water areas. I'm getting an ocean kayak (caper) at the end of this month. My husband built what they call a rocket for his. Basically it is a four rod holder system made out of pvc pipe. It's pretty cool. I'll have to take some pics and send them. Our email is ncso407@bellsouth.net. I haven't tried whitewater kayaking, but it looks like it would be alot of fun.
My husband met quite a few yak buddies on the Floridasportsman.com forum. There is a bunch of us getting together for a yak trip in October. It will be some where in the South Florida area, not sure where yet. The more the merrier, if you guys want to join us, I'll give you the details when I get them.

I've never tried kayaking but would like to some time. Last year a couple of guys from church and I went canoeing down the Bow river in western Alberta. It had some class 3 rapids which were a blast! That was in August when the water is at its lowest point. This year we are going in June when the snowmelt off of the mountains is coming on through, and the water is at its highest level. The other day I saw the last bit of the movie "Deliverance", I think its fairly well known, but it reminded me of our canoe trip.

I went white water rafting two summers ago at Cache Creek. Our party split up into two man teams. ( The river is a Class 3 & 4) It was an all day event which was spent tipping over our rafts and flying out of the raft after hitting rocks. We even managed to go down one of the rapids backwards. Although it was only 9 miles down the river, we managed to have many stops before reaching our final destination. :D On this day, the ice cold beer waiting for us at the end was the best I had ever drank. And I'm not a beer drinker. ;)

My only experience with kayaking is taking my kayak on lakes. It's nice to kayak while having the opportunity to enjoy the scenery...
