    Some people never learn...

Remember the thread I started back in October about finding my neighbor's stolen car? For those who haven't seen it, here it is: http://forums.realpolice.net/showthread.php?t=40846

Anyway, I found out later that he hangs around some rather scummy people, which is how it got stolen in the first place. The other night he told me somebody he knew stole it again.

Last night I'm home surfing the internet and listening to the scanner and I hear the sheriff's department say they are behind a stolen car. They gave out the license plate and sure enough it's my neighbor's car. They followed the car for a few blocks while waiting for backup to make the stop. Before backup arrived the passenger bailed out. I think they caught the driver.

Anyway, now my neighbor will have a nice fat storage fee to pay in order to recover the car. I have a funny feeling that he still hasn't learned his lesson though..

If I had to guess, I'd say that the car was not stolen as much as it was loaned to a thug in exchange for drugs. I may be wrong, but most people don't have their car stolen once in their lifetime, much less twice in a couple months.

You probably hit the nail on the head. I've seen some unsavory characters in the building lately and I found out from other neighbors that they associate with this guy, and that he may possibly be dealing/using drugs. Most gossip I take with a grain of salt, but in this case they're probably right.

While crack rentals are abundant, I know people who have had NUMEROUS vehicles stolen (actual thefts).

It all depends upon where one resides.

It was your agency that stopped the car, by the way.;) It happened in District 6 in the Oak Park area.

We had a local veterinarian with a drug problem who was always letting his drug dealers drive around in his mercedes commiting crimes. He wasn't a very good vet, it was barely noticed when he killed himself.

I did have a roommate who had 3 cars stolen, he wasn't lending them to people, but he liked very trendy modified type cars with lots of goodies that could be striped and sold.
