Merry Christmas to Me
Well, Merry Christmas to me... we get home yesterday evening from shopping for about 2 hours to find that someone broke into the back of our house at about 7pm and stole half of our wrapped presents from under our tree. They smashed the top half of a window and unlocked the bottom, then opened it and climbed in, then apparently filled a bag with whatever presents they could grab and ran out the back door. Got about $350 worth of stuff. Nothing that can't be replaced, and nothing super expensive... actually it's kinda funny, they took things like conservative political books, muffin mixes and a foot massager. That's about the only part that made me laugh. I had an officer (who I happened to know from the academy) come clear the upstairs because my gun was up there and I didn't know if someone might still be in the house. All in all, pretty scary stuff. Fortunately they walked right by my wife's laptop. I mean RIGHT by - it was sitting right by the back door in plain sight. Also left our digital camera and all my computer stuff, the TV, DVD player, grill.... makes me think it was kids.
Anyhow just wanted to share and remind folks to remember their CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design). Lighting is what nailed us on this one, as I hadn't turned on the back door light. Time for an infrared sensor light and minefield I guess. Guess I'll go have a chat with my insurance company now. Have a safe and happy Christmas, all.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
