You may have had a hemi car in which the hemi was removed but the 383 was not a hemi. ( still a great motor) . Nope , the "Cuda came with a 225 slant six ( believe it or not !) the 273 V-8 , 318, 340, 360, 383, 426 and the 440. The 383 could have been a magnum or a Commando. Same motor just Plymouth and Dodge fooling around.

Yep , the new hemi is a 5.7 at 345 hp. Pretty good but I believe that one can get a Navigator with a 345 hp 5.4 Ford engine.

I am glad I got sent overseas and had to sell my 440 Dodge. It could have led to my demise. Always wonder what happened to it. I sold it via power of attorney after I was already in Korea.

Chrysler was also the first American car to achieve more than one hp per cube in a 6 cylinder. The 170 cui slant six configured as a Hyper-Pak was good for 190 hp. Very rare. Although Chrysler came out with a Super - Six in the mid seventies it was just the basic 225 cui engine with a two barrel carb instead of the normal one barrel. OK OK enough.

You can also get a Ford Lightning F-150 with a supercharged 5.4l that had 380-385 HP completely stock! That truck will flat out fly!

Well - you are totally 100% right about the 383 not being a HEMI. I got off the phone with an old friend who I bought the car from in 1978 and he said he just stuck that emblem on to look good at the old Fremont (Baylands) Raceway - lol. Oh well - it was fast nonetheless - the torgue stands were fun -- and bleach burnouts (ahh- to be 16 again - I am surprised I am still alive after all of that).

Oh - and the Hemi Cuda that I mentioned was in fact a 426 and not 383. Damn - those were the days -- weren't they? I would love to find a mint condition original 1969/70 Boss 302 - now, that was a great car

Boss Mustangs were neat and the Boss 302 was a unique engine but it only managed 290 hp although it could be wound out to about 7000 rpm. The Boss 429 would be the ground shaker in this bunch though. Finding one would be extremely rare. Even Mercury made the Cougar "Eliminator" with the Boss 302 , again , not easy to come by.

Between my 440 Dodge and the 70 LeMans with a 421 Super Duty tripower engine ( out of a 66 Bonneville) , those in fact were the days.
