Minneapolis PD or St. Paul PD

I was wondering if any of you had ever been an intern with Minneapolis PD or St. Paul PD in MN? I have solid leads from both for a summer internship and I don't know which one I should do. For my major it is required that we intern in the summer to get a total of 480 hours. So, if you guys have any advice that would be helpful.

I don't know where you'd like to work, but I personally like the St Paul PD over Minneapolis. There's nothing wrong with Minneapolis or anything. I've just been very impressed by St Paul's police department. It would be an excellent department to work for. I haven't interned or worked for them, though.

I haven't done an internship, with either of them, but I have done ride alongs with both. From my own experience, as well as what I've heard from others, St Paul is a lot better than Mpls.

[Hijack]When you rode with Mpls, was it with a two-person squad, so you were in the backseat, or did they put you with someone riding solo?

In theory, there is no difference between practice and theory. In practice, there is.

I've done quite a few ride-a-longs with MPD, none with St. Paul so my opinion isn't worth much but...... from talking with others and reading message boards... St. Paul sounds like a better department. I will say the MPD have very nice people employed there though. MPD has had quite a few black eyes over the years where as St. Paul doesn't look like they've had as many. Or - the media doesn't pick on St. Paul like they do Mpls.

I'll also stick in my .02 on riding with MPD. I've done both where I was stuck in the back seat with POS and I've also gotten to ride with Able cars and got to sit in the front. The back seat sucks - I've been kicked and spit on back there with the losers when I rode with 320 (Franklin/Chicago Aves. area).

Yeah, mine was back seat too. Got to share it with a drunk Russian  Officers were kinda arrogant and cocky it seemed. Drove to a fight in progress, when we got there, there was a black male running, and the cop yells on his PA: "Freeze! Police! ... Hope you weren't fighting now" and drove off. They were nice to me though, just didn't seem to be too nice to their "customers". And I second the backseat sucks comment.

Wow, I don't mean any disrespect to you guys but that seems a little degrading to me, I apologize in advance if I offend. I guess thats the first time I'veheard of a department making people on ride alongs ride in the back, especially when you have suspects back there too.

Yeah, it was the first time for me too, and is the reason I will not do another ride along with Mpls. I don't like sharing :D

Minneapolis City Council adopts 2006 City budget
The Minneapolis City Council approved the 2006 City budget on Dec. 19, 2005. The $1.3 billion budget includes funding for 71 new police officers, new crime-safety cameras and a significant debt-reduction package.

Mayor R.T. Rybak proposed the 2006 City budget in August 2005 and the City Council held public hearings and discussions on the proposal during the fall. The Council approved the budget on a 7-5 vote.
