ahhhh alas! Honest people are here! ha ha YES YES YES Shooting is FUN! I do love it...BUUUUUTTTT, here is where logic overrides the fun...

Carrying a gun, for me, has always been a pain...There are so many moral and legal implications to firing...I've always thought like this: If someone gets into my house, I would yell at them, telling them they will die or leave, and give them the chance to bolt....BUT....now in today's society, I believe I would shoot....Things are so different when my grandfather was Chief of Police, and he would have given them the opp. to leave, and then called the cops. Me? I do believe that if someone enters my home, uninvited, at any time, they are only there for ONE REASON, and that is enough for me to shoot.

Just make sure you are well trained, safety, cleaning of your firearm, properly permitted in your state, and well aware of the consequences of discharging firearms in your state, and go for it...A lot of these young kids today who want to be in LE think it's "cool and bad ***" to wear a vest/carry a firearm/badge...But go through what I, and many others have been through and what we've seen, and they would think twice...

Good luck to you, and the fact that you have shown you are a "thinker".....that alone my friend makes me feel confident that you will choose the right thing to do....Think before acting, then there is no jury to decide if you did or not.....

Thank you very much for responding, lfpd. I really appreciate your opinions on this.

That is the moral question for me. If it comes down to it, am I going to be able to shoot? I can't say, because I haven't been in the situation before. I don't think anyone who hasn't drawn or fired on another would be able to say. I do know that until I am sure, I wouldn't even draw it, or carry it.
another pitfall of having a ccw is the fact that it sometimes becomes a security blanket for some people, leos included. when this happens you're more likely to pull it out and use it when you might not have done it in the past.
I can definitely see the potential for that to happen! Some non-leo friends of mine act like a gun is the end-all way of communicating.
if you were not a dispatcher and heard all the horror stories, would you still want a ccw? if the answer is yes, the go for it. if the answer is no, then re-evaluate why you want one to begin with.
I can't honestly answer 100% yes. I think the job I do has something to do with it, but doesn't everything people do shape their feelings towards things?
I thought about this a long time ago, before I started with the police dept. I didn't see what kind of situation I would be in that would warrant carrying a gun, except for home defense (this was before home invasions became the popular crime of the day). Since I see all the jobs, if I get the chance, I think of how different a gun would make. Most of the time, if you introduce a gun into the situation, it is to intimidate someone. It completely changes the dynamic of the situation. I find very few instances where having a gun would be essential. Is that bad thing?

Bruno, thanks for the post! I wonder sometimes if being a "thinker" about this is to my detrement though!! LOL....
