    Education levels

I was just wondering what the average educational level for the people on this board. How many people have HS Diplomas, Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Phd's.

If you are an officer, does your employer pay for any part of continued education (other than in-service training)?

I have a B.A. in English and a J.D. I'm applying to three agencies. The two city PDs give "bonus" pay for the four year degree - but nothing for any graduate degree. The third agency, the FBI, requires a four year degree, plus.

MS in Criminal Justice Administration. My former department would reimburse tuition costs if funds were available.

I miss the LEAA (Law Enforcement Assistance Administration) days when the federal govt paid for tuition and the only requirement was work as a police officer for two years after completion of the classes. They need that again, except most applicants in this area are already college grads.

associates of science in criminal justice, this summer i finish up my bachelor's of technology in criminal investigation

It took me a while to figure out I wanted to be a cop, so I'm 24 now and want to escape school after this, but I suppose maybe that'll change after a few years of work. Who knows?

A JD Wick - I am impressed. Have you passed the bar yet? I am thinking about going for my JD next (that is if I can find some money) - just completed my MBA a few months ago and also have a BSEE and two AA's (they are giving them away - lol). My fiance laughs at my $120,000 wallpaper.

If I was ten years younger, I would go for the FBI. I interviewed with the CIA once but they wanted me for my technical and not LE skills (which means I would be sitting in some remote spot monitoring someone - boooooring!) :p

    bhanson,

Are you published? What was your thesis subject? What was your focus on research?

I will have my BS in Administration of Justice, from George Mason University next May. I have 24 credits to go after my summer internship

    Mike,

I didn't have a traditional thesis. Mine was a grant project that served a dual purpose. I wrote and obtained the grant for my department and also submitted and credit for the project through the College. :p

Bachelor of Social Science (psych/crim just); Masters in Social Science (crim); Masters in Law. The PD pays around $500 a year for continuing education, which isn't much but it helps.

    911,

would you mind sharing your Masters thesis? The reason I ask both you and bob Hanson is b/c I will get my Masters eventulally. I just want to be certain LE is for me before I spend all the money on a MA in Criminology or public policy.
