Attitude toward officers...

Wow. I go comfort friends as they bury their eight month old daughter and come back to some pretty ugly stuff.

Is the condescending tone that I see in so many of the posts TO officers here representative of the general reaction to you by the public? I was amazed at the arrogance and the lack of respect for men who encounter atrocities that I cannot fathom.

Would I make generalizations and assumptions and say some of the things to posters that the officers here say? Nope. I don't have that privilege (however I must admit I've thought quite similar things!) I don't have the experience behind my belt that gives me the 'gut instinct' to determine someone's probable motivation in saying some of the asinine things that have been posted.

Does it not occur to these blasters who come and appoint themselves arm chair critics of how OFF DUTY officers speak of people making comments and asking questions that to someone with NO criminal justice or law enforcement background at all seem far fetched at best?

So... what am I really asking? Do you guys really have to put up with this kind of garbage every day? I think it'd be bad enough to have rude and obscene names flung in your faces at every turn by the criminals you deal with but do you really have to take this kind of flack from those who are 'law abiding citizens'?

I am so sorry to hear that...it it a horrible task to bury an infant. :(

To answer your questions the answer is YES we have to put up with this stuff on a daily basis. Does it bother us, NO. I actually find it humorous when some toolboy comes into our house and tries to tell us how it supposed to be done. Especially when the tool lives with mommy and has no life experience outside of his basement. I do get good laughs off of some of the plain stupid comments made here by trolls. If you notice if someone comes here and asks an intelligent well thought out question, they do not get flamed or picked on but get answers.

I don't get rude people everyday. A lot are less than thrilled after my contact with them but rude people (for me) isn't an everyday occurrence. I personally get many more thank yous after a ticket than a F you.

You won't find an Officer on this board that would be shocked and someone giving them "lip" out on the street. When we deal with people, it's usually a bad situation. Rarely is it a call with a "happy ending".


When I first started in LE work I knew that not everyone would be happy to see me. There was a few times (in the beginning) I was a little bit taken aback by the sheer hatred in some peoples eyes towards me. Now when I see that hatred I don't give it a second thought. Comes with the territory.

Sorry about the funeral that you had to attend, an infant or child breaks our hearts as officers when we see them hurting.

As for your other question, no we do get the good people quite a bit that have honest questions or even a few that want to thank us for doing what we do. We just tend to see people at their worst moments the majority of the time, so thats why as police officers we are seen in the worst light. We are not really the ones that go in and save the day from a burning building, we are seen more of the ones that took mommy and daddy to jail. Ironically I had to take a mother to jail this morning, her kids were present and I along with the other officers on seen do not believe in handcuffing a parent in front of their kids unless they are not being cooperative. Hope these answers that we have given answer your question.

Oh ugh. I've never thought about you having to arrest parents IN FRONT of children. Bless their hearts! Honestly I don't know how you guys do it but you'll get nothing but thanks and appreciation from our little corner of the world.

It never ceases to amazes me how "mothers" can take their children for granted in the first place. You see 'em all the time, DRAGGING their screaming kid in the store, yelling at them, calling them names....My only hope in all of that is that God will judge them & most of them will pay right here on earth...sometime, somehow.

I think that bec. of what I have seen, I hold my girls VERY close.

First off I'm sorry to hear about the funeral stuff like that is what keeps things in perspective.

As far as the type of arrogance some people have towards leo's sure I see it often but ya know what I spend a great deal of my time encountering good natured people who have made my day much more pleasant. More than a few times have I been out directing traffic in the mid summer and had a cold water handed to me, or had a thank you thrown my way, or a little kid running up to shake my hand and say hello. Thankfully not everyone out there is completely out of their minds.
