Man what a night. I get my first DUI of the night at 17:30 hours. Coming from golfing. I smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his breath. Theres a bottle of Jim Beam in the back seat and 3/4 of the contents are gone. Theres a cup with ice and surprisingly smells like whiskey! He agrees to take some field tests and immediately says he has MS and it affects his balance. I'm thinking, great...this will surely be fought in court. But he tells me that he playes 18 holes of golf and shot a 75. I figure if he can do that then he can fo SFST. But anyway....
He doesn't do well and blows a .17 on the PBT. He also showed 6 clues on the HGN. Yep finally got to use my newly aquired skillz! He ends up blowing .11 after giving an invalid sample the first time.
Second DUI of the night was a frikken MESS! I get a call of a hit and run w/injuries. I get there and a vehicles trunk is caved in. Driver is OK but his wife is complaining of neck pain. I get a description and direction of travel. Then dispatch calls and says a woman called to say her son came home and hit their vehicle and he's drunk. Yep that's my man. I haul *** to that residence which was right down the street and nearly nail a HUGE 8+ point buck....that sumbitch looked like an elk!
I get to the residence and the step dad is at the truck holding his son in. I get there and the drunk said F you I'm leaving. I politely advised him he would comply. I grab an arm as he was still in the truck. He said he's leaving and I advise that he's not going anywhere. He tries to get away and I do an arm bar take down. He's so drunk that he goes down hard...I mean really HARD. He landed right on his face with a sickening splat. Sounded and felt like a melon hitting the pavement. He broke teeth. I'm not sure if he did it then or when he hit the other vehicle. There was blood all in his truck and a nice impact star in the windshield.
He was transported to the hospital which was literally right across the street. This hospital is basically a "clinic" so they called LifeGuard10 and helicoptered him to Roanoke trauma center. So I wrote him a summons for the DUI and will obtain a warrant for felony hit and run.
It's going to take me forever to do this report! If I think of anymore details I'll post them later....I'm goingt o try and go to bed but my adrenaline is still going.
