A Rancho Cordova police officer is in critical condition after he was thrown from his police motorcycle in a vehicle collision.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Coloma Road at Cordova Lane. According to police department spokesman Sgt. R.L. Davis, Officer William Woodel (shown above) was traveling eastbound on Coloma when a Volkswagen Jetta pulled out in front of his motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the vehicle's door, the impact sending the officer over the top of the car.
Woodel, who has been with the Rancho Cordova force for 15 years, sustained serious injuries. The 46-year-old officer underwent surgery and is in critical condition at the U.C. Davis Medical Center.
The 55-year-old driver of the Jetta was also taken to UCDMC for treatment of her injuries.
