Fallen Police Officers of 9/11 ignored.

Since 9/11 we've been flooded with coverage about all the Firefigters killed in the line of duty, and they and their families certainly deserve the coverage and support of the nation. I've seen " Dateline", and " 48 Hours" stories on the fallen Firefighters, their families, their Ladder Companies, and how their fellow Firefighters are handling their losses. It's good they are getting a lot of the respect they deserve, they've earned that as the rescuers of New York City.

Not to take anything away from all those brave Firefighters who perished, but as i recall there was another group of heroes who perished who have received no coverage at all, the fallen Police Officers of the NYPD. As the son of a career LEO, I know i'm biased toward the Police Officers, but I certainly think they deserve equal coverage. The rescuers are recognized, but as usual, the protectors of New York have gotten no respect from the Media, and I find that disgusting. We've heard nothing about the Police families, their Precincts, the Officers killed, and how their fellow Officers and handling the losses. There's been no coverage of the Police funerals with full honors, no praise for the Officers,( that I've heard about), no one waving flags at the Police Officers as they ride down the street, no respect at all. Even though Police are used to getting bashed by the media, they deserve equal coverage as well. I think the number of killed Firefigters was greater than the lost officers, but that doesn't matter, they have a job that's just as tough, if not tougher than that of a Firefighter, and they deserve their due. I may try to email NBC and CBS, for all the good it will do. To keep from rambling on anymore, i'll get to the point. It would be a real shame if the fallen Police Officers of 9/11 became the Forgotten Heroes, which is something i would blame on the media.

I disagree with this totally. There was extensive coverage given to the NYPD an PAPD heroes who perished. I've seen media coverage of their funerals, stories of their families, eevn saw the story of a K9 who perished in the rubble. The sheer volume of Firefighters lost that day might make it seem like there is a lot more coverage, but even local papers here printed the names and assignments of the fallen officers along with brief stories.
Keep in mind, they didn't die to be called heroes, they died because they were committed to their duty.

Yeah, around here, it's like what coptobe said. Yay firemen, too bad cops. It really pisses me off. But then firemen don't arrest people, or give them tickets for being f*cking stupid sh!thead morons.

Dont forget those military members that died at the Pentagon. It might not as been as many but there was still little coverage that I've seen. It is good now that the police, firefighters and military alike are actually getting the recognition that they deserve. In my five years that I've been in the Navy I had never received a thank you for serving my country until after Sept. 11th. I've never heard so many thank yous in my life like I did at a Pearl Harbor Day memorial parade that I attended in my uniform on December 7th 2002. It finally felt good to be appreciated for the long deployments on ships that are almost as old as my father and the nights spent in your rack counting the days until you can see your family again. I pray constantly for the cops and firefighters that actually go out there and take the crap (and the fires) that no one else wants to take and I pray for those military members deployed, which include many of my friends, that took the American Flag from the hands of the NYPD, PAPD, FDNY and said "We'll take it from here."

    9/11

ok here is my opinion on this. my uncle who i lost a couple years ago in a fire i was with him that day and i live by this all life is precious when we die we accept that this is the risk of the job, i know that this was a act of murder in my eyes, military, police, fire, emt, civilian, security what ever life is precious. As far as the firefighter attention is so up front is because this was te greatest loss of life in the history of firefighting, it has cause so much turmoiul in our ranks about our safety, we do fight the devil no other way to put it this is a criminal tahts hard to kill you can't get him to give up his gun and we have very little protection of our lives when we do our job, with taller buildings it produces a larger danger when we have to rescue and put out fires, it has come to the question nowadays do we go in when do we leave? It has made us more aware the job is getting harder and the technology and fire excape practiceses are not keeping up with these larger buildings.

I had the same impression last year after 9/11. The coverage here in LA was extremely "incomplete". The media had a golden opportunity to portray LE in a positive light and they failed to do so miserably. No one wants to hear or talk about cops being heroes or doing a stand up job. Screw em.

Maybe it's just because I am in NY that we got all sorts of tributes for both police and firefighters. We didn't recognize the people who died at the Pentagon though - every tribute I have been a part of has only talked about pol/fire. It is interesting to hear how things were portrayed across the country.
Is there still a lot of patriotism in everyone's city? We still have cars with flags flying, houses, and a lot of other tributes around....
