I have the same arrests powers as a Police Officer in my state (Citizens arrest)* and I excercise that right very often. Wannabe? Who knows... I know that I have been working in the Private Security field for over twenty years, and most of that work being what I call aggressive Security (cuffing & stuffing just like YOU). I get paid well for what I do, mayby not as much as a Police Officer but $20 - 25 an hour isnt to bad. I run into alot of LEO's who do not like security officers who drive marked vehicles or make arrests on a regular basis, and my response to that is "I dont care", unless I am breaking a law - you need to keep your opinion to yourself, and roll off to that call that has been waiting for the last 20 minutes. It really is sad that most of you spend your entire shift going from call to call instead of being able to make proactive patrols, and actually deter or catch a criminal sometimes. But because of that, I make a very nice living. All of you who dislike Security had better get used to it - the Private sector is changing and growing all the time.
    * A Private citizen can make an arrest if he is the witness to a Misdemeanor, or has Probable Cause that a Felony level crime has taken place.

Your .02 isn't worth the virtual letters in this forum stating it. First post and your already banned. Oh btw, Your citizens arrest only goes so far until you become a nuisance to society and end up someone' biotch in an eventual lawsuit. As for needing a lightbar, absolutely not. In what part of your job does it require you to maneuver between traffic to get to an emergency? Exactly...

    Go "Wannabe" elsewhere please.

While we're on this subject... I have a question myself.

I drive an old cop car, not because I think it's cool or because I'm a wannabe, but becaue it was a cheap, (supposedly) reliable car and now I'm stuck with it. I'm in the process of joining the local fire deparment and EMS. Volunteer ff's have blue lights and EMS are required to have green lights. I can just as soon do without the blue light because it's really not all the necessary, but the green light is required when we are on duty with the EMS. So my question is, how can I pull this off without looking like a whacker or wannabe???

I can just imagine driving down the highway in an old CV with a green or blue light stuck up on the dash... the state cops would be on me like a pack of dogs on a three legged cat! I don't want something permanently mounted to my roof, and it just seems too fishy to have lights on the dash. I thought about just keeping it by the seat and putting up on the dash for calls, but I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to hide it. It's not that I'm worried about getting in trouble for it, because I would have to carry and department-issued card saying I'm authorized to have the lights, but I don't wanna draw the extra attention or be inconvenienced by getting pulled over...

I'd give Oscar the Grouch ten bucks if he'd call Elmo "Numbnuts" and then hit him with a shovel.

When I was at a mall once, a truck was driving along with his yellow lights on, I was walking next to his truck and I asked him why he was running his overhead lights... his response.. "Im going to a call." I asked him what call he was going to, so he responds "I cant chat now... Im busy." :D

Unfortunately, your choice of a former LEO cruiser adorned by any kind of "emergency" lighting is going to give you the appearance ( to LEO's) that you don't want.

At least , don;t drive around with the light on your dash all of the time. Have your FD/Rescue card with you showing that you are authorized and if you know any of the local officers, stop and let them know about your affiliation and the car you will be using. When they get used to seeing you with the light and know that you are allowed to have it, the word usually gets around.
