So Im posting this because it was a interesting story. Friday night I rode with a LVMPD officer on the graveyard shift. Well I got along great with the officer and for a friday night it seemed very slow, and he agreed. We responded to a illegal shooting call where the caller wanted to be anonymous and we found no shells or any evidence of a shooting, A couple traffic stops, and around one AM there was a call of a man following his ex wife at the rental car return place by the airport. We were the only unit to respond ( Due to a attempted suicide going on everyone responded because it was so slow ). Well everything is clear on the call and we were dispatched to a call where a wife called and said her husband punched out her two front windows and he wasnt on the premise. We arrive and there is a HFA with her newborn in her arms, the officer goes up and talks to her and I notice the glass windows busted out in her house, and I also notice the two cars parked in the lot have broken windows with blood on them.
Out of no where a HMA appeared and the officer quickly realized this was her husband he was definetely under the influence of something. The officer kept telling him to talk to him but his only words were "%#$@ it no!". He then went inside the house quickly before the officer could follow and came out with 40 ounce glass bottle in a threatening manner. The officer had his tazer then pointed to him.( keep in mind back up is rolling code to us but is 14 minutes away , This was determined afterwards). At this point the man is walking backwards down a alley. It leads to another parking lot where there was a car parked and the guy backed into it, just then he reached in his waist band and pulled a 12 inch knife out with blood on it. He was then tazered, To my astonishment this had no effect what so ever ( the knife was dropped though ) and he just pulled the prongs out and threw them. The officer then tried to grab him but he slipped out. He then proceeded to the spot where he was sighted at. I backed off a bit to let them get ahead of me. As I went up the alley way I turned the corner to see a shocking sight. The suspect on top of the officer stabbing him with broken glass all over his arm. I know im a ride along but I didnt feel like posting up a thread "in the line of duty" I punched the guy in the head and put my knee in his back, The officer then gave me a hand cuff as he had him in a head lock,I managed to get his left hand in perfect, The right hand took me a bit, He would not budge it So i kept twisting his left cuff. Eventually I managed and the officer then wriggled out from underneath him. All of us full of blood, the officer with gashes all over. Long story short, I was thanked by everyone in that area command, The guys wife called me and thanked me, The Real CSI people came out, Captain, Strip units, and some people in unmarkeds in plain clothes. All in all this guy was a $hitbag, he kicked out the window of one cruiser and was then hobbled, and bent the window in a second cruiser. He had a spit sock over him cause he was spitting at everyone and everything. The officer I was with though ended up in the hospital. He is fine now. Another reason im posting this is Im glad this did not scare me from still wanting to be a cop, Not one time was I Truly scared of the job, My adrenaline pumped in like hell though!
