    Community Service

    If I plan on volunteering in the ER during the summer at one of the hospitals downtown in my city...Can that be counted as community service?

    Community service in what capacity? Is this in lieu of jail time, or is it for an application for employment when they ask about volunteer work?
    If it is for an application, yes, I would consider it "community service". It benefits the community and you are doing it for no financial reward.
    If it is to serve a sentence, then the court has specific jobs that they consider "community service".
