Okay, this isn't really a story of a police force, but anyway, here goes. At my university (Carleton U, in Ottawa), we have a program called Foot Patrol. Basically we walk people home and just stay on the look out for any strange happenings - sort of like a security/police force. Sort of. Anyway, last night, I was working the late shift, from 11:00pm-2:30 am. Me and my partner are on our breaks when we hear a huge smash right above our office. We race out and grab a couple security guards from the nearby bar, and check out the noise. We find that a table had been thrown down some stairs and the squack box had been opened (basically, something like a fire alarm, only a security alarm) Once the campus and Ottawa police arrived, we (me and my partner) begin checking out the surrounding rooms, to find out if anyone's there, and where the desk came from. Fortunately, there was no-one left in the area. Me and my partner were both wired, and were completely unaware of who did it, or whether they had any weapons or not.
I know it probably doesn't seem particularly scary to the officers who face this kind of stuff every day, but for a volunteers who normally just walk around campus with nothing happening, this was extremely frightening. I kind of hope that something like this never happens again. Then I may be able to get off of my adrenaline rush.
