was thinking - is anyone a workaholic?

I was writing a reply in a thread. I realized that when i was writing it, that i am in fact a workaholic.

i work for the Marines for 10-12 hours a day, and then when i go home on leave i am working for the sheriffs dept for 16 hours a day shift and night shift and i dont even get paid for that one, it is all volunteer. That is my vacation time. But i always have to be doing something, but also i do have to take time to relax otherwise i burn out.

I was wondering if anyone else is a "workaholic" and what they do to relax during there time off or anything like that?

Also to if this is a bad habit to get into, and if i should tone it down abit. i guess i do it becuase i love both jobs so much that i am affraid that one day i will not be able to do either one. (Scared of Retirement but i have along time till then)

    what about all of you?

A friend of mine works for the RCMP on a vehicle theft taskforce in the lower mainland of BC. And he says that he loves his job so much that he has 16 weeks of vacation time stored up. This past Christmas he took off for 2 weeks because he needed to or else he might get some burnout on of these days. But he couldn't wait to get back and be in on the action again. I guess that loving your job is a good thing compared to what most people think of their work situation

I am a workaholic too. However, what I consider work, you propably do not. Working my job, going to school, house work, cooking, cleaning, bills, laundry, shopping, oh yeah and occasionally seeing my loved ones. I could go on and on. For I don't have a wife to do it for me. LOL

I am always moving. Always, even when I sleep I am planning and going over the next days events. But alot has happened to me this year to make me realize that sometimes, all that stuff can wait.

My advice, Life is short, don't spend it all at work. It can't give you half of the rewards that the rest of this thing called life has to offer. Besides I am not saying that working all the time is a bad thing, you are obviously very motivated, it is just that I know that I personally would never want to be in a relationship with a workaholic. And that can sometimes be the downfall to being a workaholic. You hardly have time for freinds or family, let alone a relationship. And that has its affect on your loved ones.

I am not making a general statement about you situation. You haven't provided enough info for that. I am only giving you the downside to being one, as I used to be myself.

There are many a great people in my life that have taught me that it's not the most important thing. As I can see now that I have lost out on alot of my youth due to working at such an early age, (14) because I thought it would yeild the better things in life.

Let you hair down. LOL Trust me you will see the difference afterwards. :p

Oh yeah and to repond to the other question you asked. Go To The Bar, I have a bar right here in my house every month, the guys all come over and we hang out and watch the WWE Pay Per View.

Oh yeah and Jones, thanks for the hair bit, I really did it now. LOL

All Silicon Valley engineers are workaholics - but most of the time it is not by choice. We are basically slaves (and treated as such a great deal of the time)

zander - you should talk to some one, treating you like slaves that is violating your constitutional rights.

my name is pepper and i am a workaholic

i have it luckier then most firefighters i have morw time, enough time to have a job and go to college on top of being a firefighter. For those of you who don't know i am a pay-per call Vol. Firefighter, it's my favorite job in the world, tough expecially in these maine winters, i like being busy i don't know if i would have it any other way. I like college and studying theatre and art, and being a firefighter. Making more money would be good but i am happy to be shoet then be in a job i hate.

oh yeah yeah - right! I will talk to my boss about that on Tuesday. Will you hire me once I get fired? lol! Unfortunatley most constitutional rights are based on the governments interaction with its citizens. Private industry can screw with anyone they choose (the better lawyer wins - lol)

Silicon Valley - when men are men. And women are met on line - lol
