    Police Pursuits

    Police pursuits at night

Test your night driving knowledge to take our interactive quiz http://abclocal.go.com/wjrt/news/111...ight_quiz.html

It was a typical night for Michigan State Police Trooper Dave Stokes when a routine traffic stop results in a narcotics arrest. But in this situation, and most others like it, before the arrest comes some sort of vehicle pursuit. But Saginaw Police Chief Don Pussehl says "I think if you talk to any officer, they would rather not ever become involved in a chase situation."

But like it or not, police say it's part of the job. And for officers to stay on top of their game they have to train. Meridian Township police officer Judy Hood told us "Your car is a ten thousand pound weapon. You know, you're trained with your gun. You need to be trained on your vehicle as well."

For Officer Hood, and hundreds of Michigan police officers, that training takes place at the State Police Precision Driving School in Lansing. There they undergo several days of grueling training both in the classroom and behind the wheel. And it's done under the most challenging conditions possible?at night!

MSP Driving Instructor Sergeant Doug Schutter explained to us "if you're average during the day, you're less than average during the night. Bad guys like to run away at night." He goes on to say "One of the different aspects of driving at night is the fact that your field of vision and your ability to judge speed and distance becomes impaired."

    Great test DepDog....

The last time I took a quiz related to driving was almost 12 years ago when I took my driving test (written). That was somewhat challenging but if you just think about what is being asked in the question its really not that hard, just a little thought and some common knowledge. I did miss one though.......

(((((((((((5. When driving at night, one should keep a four to six _____ following distance.)))))))))))

    Feet
    Yards
    Seconds
    Car Lengths

I answered yards because I was always taught that at least a car length was an acceptable distance. But all that does is prove my theory that not all teachers are correct in what they teach....probably why I try to be somewhat objectionable and ask alot of questions now about everything that I encounter or try to possess as knowledge.

    Great Test

    Dear Dep Dog,
I took that test and did quite well, but I had an advatange I am sure. I ad my drivers test only 2 years ago so I got that right about how far from you should be from the car in front of you at a high speed. ( 55mph.) Anyway it was fun and brought back memories of driver's ed. Gotta run. Talk to you later. Dutchgal
