    Sheriff's dept.

I was just wondering what the difference is between police departments and sheriffs departments. Which would you recommend working for?

It's entirely up to your taste. I would rather work for the Sheriff's Office since the Sheriff is the Chief Officer of the entire County. City was always too political for me but, like I said, it's entirely up to your taste.

Do what I did and go consolidated, you get the city and the county in one shot, I don't know how I am going to like it yet but all of my friends say that they love being consolidated. I don't think that consolidation is very widespread though. If I had to choose I would probably go with the sheriff, like star said you are more important and you get to serve warrants too.

Do a search and you'll find many posts in regards to SO's and City PD's. ;)

Salt and pepper.......go together...yet some like more of one and less of the other....all based on personal choice!

Depends on the state/county. In my state the Sheriff's are not the police and have limited police powers. They mainly do courthouse security, prisoner transport and service of protection orders.
