    Base closings & LE hiring

Looking for opinions, ideas and speculation...

What effect will all these military base closings have on law enforcement hiring in their respective communities? I'm thinking in particular of Connecticut, where the Navy's sub base at Groton is supposed to be eliminated. Is this going to cause some kind of ripple effect that will reduce the amount of hiring both at the state and local level? :(

That all depends on how much the community relies on the Naval base. If they soldiers coming into that base are a major supporter to the community then yes you will see some sort of ripple effect going on. But if there are more civilians in that area that help just as much if not more than the soldiers with the support then the community will be just fine.

I know here in manhattan when the big red one left ft. riley the loss of the division left a huge void in the local communities but I don't know how it affected hiring, now that they are bringing back 3000 troops and talking about bringing the big red one back (6000 to 8000 troops) my department is now hiring on a very regular basis. My guess that if the naval station houses alot of seamen  then hiring could go down, but if it just a small station it will probably stay stable.

There is no way in hell that sub base will close. The Senators around here, even in NY, PA and NJ are all on TV and teh raio with the communities. And Mrs. Clinton is the loudest. Oldest sub base, and only one in the NE, with NY and DC so close and targets. And with 40% of Groton's schools with military kids...schools will have to shut down and consolidate along with many other things. All this in an election year, so close to Mrs. Clinton and Gov. Pataki. Trust me folks....deals will be made....secret handshakes shook.....but that base ain't closing. It will be temporarily used as a pawn...but it will stay open.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
