I was wondering what it takes to become a k-9 unit after you are hired on by a department. Do k-9 units still respond to all the calls a regular LEO would, or is their daily routine different?

Takes Law Enforcement experience first, you usually can't just walk into a department and say Hey! Can I be a K9 Officer! It takes work behind it and alot of dicipline because you will be spending most of your days/hours training the dog and keeping him in working form. It's a very competitive job, alot like SWAT. I tend to do the same with my career, just think about those facts ahead of time.
A message for our criminals from God:

13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
13:2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.
