Got a ticket & you all are bad influences!

I got pulled over today and got a ticket for not coming to a full and complete stop BUT the real reason for writing the bad influence of this list!
The officer said to me "Do you know why I stopped you?" and it took EVERY OUNCE of self control not to say all the smarta**#d responses that I had read on this thread a while back. I couldn't even look at him when I said "No sir I don't" It was hard not to laugh which I am sure would have cost me even more!!

I hope you are all pleased with yourselves

Yes I am just teasing. I am not holding anyone but myself responsible. There was a thread a while back about that same question "Do you know why I pulled you over?" The responses that were funny but inappropriate ran through my head just that quick when the officer asked that. I had to hold back a laugh. Sorry if I was unclear with my intent.

No worries ... It is definitely beneficial that you learned from this, and in the long run that may save you from another ticket of the same sort down the road ...

You may also want to talk to mcsap or another PA officer to see if there are procedures to mitigate points or your fine.

personally, i think that's bad form. why make it a question and answer period? just tell them and get it over with. don't make a game out of it. if you lack that much credibility that you have to get them to admit something, rather than the judge taking you as being a credible witness under oath, you need to find another line of work.

The only question I do support is asking is this a medical emergency ... Do you agree Policeman?

Yep. Stop me and ask me if I know why you did it, and I'll just reply that I am sure you are going to tell me.

Cops are not parents to the violators. Citizens don't need the "do you know what you did wrong?" line.

Exactly. I got that drilled into my head a long time ago by a good Military SGT who's hanging out Henderson, NV as a civilian LEO. :D

My standard line is: Hi, my name is Officer Bearcat and I am with the ABC Police Dept. The reason I stopped you today is because I checked your speed at 55 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. I need to see your driver's license and proof of insurance please. I don't ***** at them.....I don't do the "do you know how fast you were going" or any of that stuff that tends to piss people off when you stop them........

It's not a lack of credibility, it's just so much easier when someone spouts out a statement admitting guilt. It goes right into my statement when I make my presentation in court.

Another reason I do it is this- I like to know how much the person is going to lie to me right off the bat. Generally, the majority of the people who just spill the beans and admit what they did right away walk away with a warning. The ones who play ignorant or flat out lie, get a ticket.

Different techiniques for different officers. I actually got a complaint for stopping a person, informing her of her infraction, getting her license, writing her a ticket, and sending her on her way. Her complaint was that I didn't talk to her enough on the side of the road to see her side of the story before writing the cite. As I told her on the roadside after she began complaining to me about the same thing, "You were doing 19 mph over the speed limit in a school zone that has heavy pedestrian traffic right now. No matter how much explaining you do, you are still going to receive a citation".

YES!! I thought of that one and "If you don't know, I"m not going to tell you" LOL

I'll pay the ticket and he didn't write me up in a way that would include points so I said "Thank you and I'll pay more attention next time." I didn't tell him I had just leflt a meeting with his LT. and what a jerk he was! (that could have gone one way or the other) I've never tried to talk myself out of a ticket. I This officer was polite and other than that question that had me holding back the laughter I had no complaints.

You may also want to talk to mcsap or another PA officer to see if there are procedures to mitigate points or your fine.
In PA, the judges do not have authority to modify or waive points. ALL points are assigned by PennDot. There is no traffic school to modify or waive points either. If you have to take your drivers test over, it is punishment , not rehab. The ONLY way points can be changed is if the arresting officer changes the type of charge to an offense that causes lesser or no points.

A stop sign vio. is 3 points in PA. A person also loses 3 points per year as long as they don't get any more points. At 6 points, a person has to re-take their drivers teat and at 11 points they get a mandatory suspension of 55 days.

He wrote it up so that I didn't get any points. I thanked him for that. For PA officers it was a 3111a. I didn't have any points on my license when he searched it. I haven't gotten a ticket in YEARS.
