I have to respectfully disagree with the water statement. I have two sets of cuffs. One Peerless and one S&W. For the days I am off at home and they need to be cleaned.......I boil them for about 30 minutes or so. When they are sufficently boiled enough......I put em in the oven to dry em. ;) Never had a problem w/rust doing it this way. For lubrication...either Break Free or graphite works the best. Just make sure when you stick em in the oven you leave them open and in long enough to get em completely dry.

For you married guys....buy a cheap pot from the dollar store to boil your cuffs in. Wives get pissed when you scratch the good teflon. :D
Lead me not into temptation.......someone talks me into enough sh!t as it is. .

The blood on mine usually gave from me pistolwhipping them after they were cuffed.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I don't agree with water rusting them, I just can't see it. As long as they are dried sufficiently I wouldn't see a problem. I'm going to boil mine, then I know all that bacteria and whatever else that could be hidden somewhere in there will be dead. I guess you could use DH2O just to be on the safe side.

Talk to your EMS/Fire/Rescue folks and see what the ambulance crews use to clean the gear on their rigs...if anybody knows how to deal with blood, its those guys. Our local ambulance crew has these heavy-duty industrial wipes and solution that (according to the package) just about kills everything. A cleaning with that stuff, a good wipe down, dry and re-oil and you're good to go.

i've always just used disinfectant that we had in the jail and paper towels. this time, this chick made a serious mess. i'm talking, these things were dripping blood out of the locks. my double locks were stuck after it dried (she wore them a while).

both of the handcuffs i wear are hinged. the peerless are blued and almost all the bluing is worn off so i have to be careful around water. i usually hosed them down with disinfectant then blow them off with an air compressor. this time though, both of my hinged cuffs were a ball of bloody goo.
