SANFORD, Fla. -- A rap music artist is under arrest after agents found thousands of dollars of drugs in his Sanford home on Lake Drive.
Investigators say this arrest will have a big impact.
Cornelius Davis is a rising star in rap music and even owns his own record label, Behind Bars Records. But deputies say that's just his side business.
"I mean, it's Behind Bars Records, now he's behind bars. Probably not gonna make records there, though," commented Steve Olson, Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say Davis, who goes by the name Grill, was a mastermind of a multimillion-dollar drug ring. The six-month investigation netted thousands of dollars in coke, five firearms, and loads of ammo.
Agents with Seminole County's drug taskforce say Davis would import powdered cocaine to Central Florida, where Terrence Perkins and Grizell Hillery would turn it into crack. Then the three, along with Davis's girlfriend Katrina Southward, allegedly sold it to dealers in the city of Sanford, raking in up to $200,000 a month.
Investigators say much of those drugs were finding their way to the Georgetown community, recently besieged by crime. Channel 9 reported on Georgetown several months ago with residents complaining about a sharp rise in drug-related crime.
Deputies say the bust won't eliminate drugs there, but they have cracked open a major pipeline.
"Will it make it a little more difficult to get cocaine there today and in the coming days? Probably," said Olson.
And it means deep trouble for the aspiring musician, who once wrote a song called "Mr. Dope Dealer."
"It seems like he had a sixth-sense, that he saw this coming," said Olson.
Davis is being held on $200,000 bond.
