Last Night

Last night was a good night. I was out looking for DUIs. We got a call for a burglary in progress right near where I was. This was in our downtown area in an old building being rennovated. The downtown is very busy because of the bars and clubs. I was first on scene and could see lights on inside. I went to the back door which was glass. The glass was broken out and the door open. I confirmed on the radio we had forced entry and got more units for a perimeter. The caller said they could see the subject doing this and they thought he was inside. Two of us went in and started searching. We heard some banging noise and went running over with our guns to find a cop who had opened up the side door to see inside. We were searching and the caller said the suspect was actually outside and walked past some of the perimiter units. Figuring he was inside and nobody saw him come out a door nobody was concerned with pedestrians because there were a lot of them. People were even stopping on the sidewalk to gawk through the windows at us searching. I guess they figured on being bullet catchers if the **** went sideways on us. :rolleyes: Apparently the caller saw the guy break in and then leave and come back several times and thought he was inside when he was really about a block away when we set up on the place. So he went walking by some units outside and she called back and told dispatch. The perimeter folks got him and I went to the caller. We did a show up and she id'd him. He had bloody knuckles and there was blood on the glass doors. He admitted it later too. So we have a great case on the guy.

Later we got a call about a car hitting the barrells full of sand in front of the bridge support. There was sand and plastic everywhere in the road and no car. The car was about a block away in a parking lot. The front end was crushed and there was sand all over the car. Both air bags deployed. The driver was really smashed. Blew a .16. Driving on revoked OL too.

It was a good night!

Caught a burglar last night as well. We get a call saying that someone saw 3 males go into a house with backpacks and could see lights shining inside. They leave and we get 2 more calls that the same 3 are breaking into more houses. We get there and set up. One of the units marks foot pursuit right up the road from me so i tear to intercept. I see his light coming so I get out and can hear the suspects running through the woods next to me so I take off after them and manage to catch one of them. The other one that the other unit was chasing turned on him and swung at him with a handgun before heading into the woods. We didn't catch the other 2 but we did find an empty handgun box in one of the houses so we think it was a gun that the suspect had.
