Instead of destroying our old vests the conventional way one of our SWAT sgts. took it out to the range and let it have 30 rounds from his MP5k at 7 yards. It was nice and flat when he started, when he finished it looked like a pillow. BUT, not one round went through all 14 layers. That makes me feel real good since the vest he took out there was almost 20 years old and the stuff we have now is far superior.

Just another reason I think the MP5 is a poor choice for entries. The .223 is a far superior caliber.

That's great news! I am of the school of thought that pistol rounds are for pistols and rifle rounds are for rifles.

We took one of our ballistic helments out one day and did the same thing. It stopped every pistol round we put in it although it did have some deformation inside. The .223's went through it if hit perpendicular, but it didn't take much of an angle for it to deflect them.
That, and hearing from an FBI friend who examined all of the ballistic helments from the ATF agents at WACO, who described all of the rounds they stopped, really made me a believer in the helments.
We just had a teletype come out saying we were all going to be fitted for level 4 vests made by the same company, and in the same style, as the military Interceptor vest.
(Since we already have IIIa's, and all of our clan lab vests come with level 3 or level 4 plates, and since most of them are stacked in closets and lining the trunks of our cars, I don't think it is going to upgrade our protection much. :D )
But, the plates are supposed to only weigh half as much as the old ones, so I am hoping I will be able to leave the things in and still run up stairs.Last edited by Group9; 04-24-05 at 11:22 AM.
