    Daniel Faulkner

What a total disgrace! This is now what is on the Grand Lodge FOP site regarding the Daniel Faulkner Story:

    THE DANNY FAULKNER STORY

This issue is no longer paramount due to the status of the case.

Please take a look at this, and I encourage everyone to please send an email to the Grand Lodge FOP and voice your displeasure.

    Thanks.

I'm not sure why they would put something like that on their website; maybe because the issues is more or less closed. Either way, an explanation would be appropriate!

I do know that boycotting Ben and Jerry's is a moot point. They were bought out in 2000 by Unilever, a British-Dutch food company. Today, Ben and Jerry are hugging trees somewhere in Vermont. I did find this interesting press release on the Ben and Jerry webpage:

Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. and all of our employees have deep and heartfelt sympathy for Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, his family and his fellow officers, over his tragic death over 20 years ago (12/9/81). The loss of anyone's life is reprehensible. The loss of a law enforcement officer's life in the line of duty is particularly egregious.

Unfortunately, there continues to be misinformation - outright false statements and accusations - concerning this tragedy. To set the record straight, neither Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. nor the Ben & Jerry's Foundation have ever taken a position - formal or informal - on any aspect of this tragic case, the sentence or the guilt or innocence of Mumia Abu-Jamal. Any comment to the contrary is both false and irresponsible.

There are two particularly absurd falsehoods being circulated, primarily on the Internet. One is that Ben & Jerry's made contributions to groups involved in this case. Ben & Jerry's has never, and will never, make any such contributions. The other falsehood involves allegations that Ben & Jerry's has an ice cream flavor whose name is connected to this case. That is both totally false and absurd.

Any misunderstanding regarding Ben & Jerry's connection with this case may have stemmed from the fact that Ben Cohen, one of our co-founders, acting as a private citizen, joined hundreds of other people in signing a petition in 1995 calling for a re-trial. Mr. Cohen made his decision to sign as a private citizen, stating "I am in no position to judge his guilt or innocence. For all I know, a new and impartial trial could find him guilty again. But the American system of justice must be fair and must be perceived as fair."

It is understandable that people have difficulty separating in their minds that when Ben Cohen makes a private choice to do something, he does not represent Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc. As a company, we respect each individual's inalienable right to make those choices.

We trust that this will clear up any confusion or misunderstandings regarding this issue.

I concur. A better explanation would likely be in order, other than the very short posted comment, to avoid any confusion or potential misinterpretation of this issue...

Personally speaking, I don't really recall hearing anything new recently about this case or anything about Abu-Jamal... Anyone out there willing to give a summary of any new developments or last known developments?

I've been away from Philly for 5 years now....... but the Daniel Faulkner story has always been a hotly debated topic.....and will continue to be untill Mumia Abu-Jamal is finally put to death.

I emailed the Grand Lodge FOP and have yet to receive an email but there are a few that did from the other website I visit. From what I've read, the FOP will be redoing its website, minus the Daniel Faulkner story. :(

Let me get this straight. A freakin 'cop-killer' has been in prison for 16 years on death row and has not yet had a trial, and his stupid attorneys are turning it into a hero sentence?

Correct me if im wrong please. I just read it. :(

No, he has had a trial, and he was convicted of 1st degree murder. He was sentenced to death. He has appealed numerous times, and lost all of his appeals.

I have a question.. Who is Wesley Cook? Everything I am reading has Mumia Abu-Jamal listed as the killer? Did he convert in prison?

Yeah, his real name is Wesley Clark nukl. I think he figured Mumia Abu-Jamal was more fitting for his new identity behind bars as a sympathetic icon for the left.

I appreciate the response... I had always heard something about Ben & Jerrys and a cop killer, but I never knew the specifics..
