    National Guard and LE

Has anyone or heard of anyone joining National Guard Special Forces while being a fulltime Police Officer? The entire process takes almost two years to be trained as a Special Forces soldier. So he would be gone for two years straight. Does the police department fall under federal re-emplyment rights law? Any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure, but i don't think he would be gone for two years straight, they train when ever the ng meets which I think is a weekend every month and two weeks a year. And actually, I don't think the reserve has special forces

Actually, the ARNG/USAR DOES have special forces assigned, but what you have to ask yourself is do you want to tie up the spot in your department for that length of time? I don't about the size of your dept, but a call up of the reserves and NG can severely affect the manning of a small department. Sometimes, on a federal call-up, you could be on orders for up to two years, as well. So, if you went to the training, then got activated, that could be four years gone from your department. Is your department liable under federal law? You betcha. Is your reliability and loyalty to the department going to be questioned? You betcha.
Something for you to chew on, my friend. Hope this helped.
