there was just a county wide sales tax shot down, that's why there is going to be the cut. If the next one doesn't pass then there are more cuts to come.

Sherry don't worry about it. From your apology, I would say that you motives for genuine, but your methods a little off There is very little tolerance by the moderators of certain things here. I would suggest, if you haven't already, to read the rules posted on each of the forums before you make another post. Hopefully that will clear things up for you

    this is my point.

Ppl aren't just going to support a tax increase unless they are firmly educated in where the money is going. I've seen to many tax increases go to support dying, failed programs. If I know that my tax increase is going to specifically allow LE ppl to keep their jobs and keep prisoners from roaming free, I would vote for it without quetsion. Going out into the communities and telling ppl whats going to happen to the individuals whos jobs are at stake and the criminals who are going to get set free roaming THEIR neighborhoods may make the difference. Talking to the right ppl is the key. You have to find someone in a prominent/public position that can stand with you and help push your case.

Btw how much time do you have?

When done for the right reasons with the right attitude law enforcement can be satifying and rewarding. There are times when I can not beleive I get paid for doing this job and there are times when I wish I could do something else. It takes a certain type of personality to do this job and if money is the primary reason in deciding to get into LE you probably won't last very long in LE. You have to have a passion for this line of work to survive in it.

I sure can't say it any better than you all have but for emphasis- YES police are underpaid! But I would like to say too that while our small midwestern town pd salaries may look pitiful, consider the cost of living. For example, I bet no town that pays it's cops 55 grand a year has nice little houses in safe neighborhoods for $35-60,000 with low real estate taxes, etc.. I guess I'm just saying that if a small town dept. is what you think you'd be happy with, check out the cost of living (compared to the cities) before you let the lower wages scare you off.

Tank, that is the perfect description of the Job.

ls59, you bring up an excellent point. I know that my city offers special deals to officers that live in the city. Some places offer reduced rent just to have a cop living here. Definitely a good idea to check out the "specials" and cost of living.
