    Unhappy How many time...

How many times do I have to tell my son NOT to accept money or snack from "Steve"? He used to live around on this neighborhood until we all ran him out from our streets after he stole items from their garages and broke in and stole a "Craftsman" toolbox from my car.

I was driving him to school this morning, my son just piped up and said, "Mom, did "Steve" told you that he gave me money and chips, sometimes soda pops? He's a cool guy." After I parked at the curb of his school, I was floored. My eyes didn't blink. I have taught him NOT to accept candies, money or anything from strangers even if the guy we know used to be around here. I told him those money and snacks are to lure him to kidnappers. I told him no many times. What else can I show him? The website or just take him to the PD and ask for my friend to help explain to him the reason that candies and money are not acceptable from strangers? Now my head is spinning in so many things of what to say and how to tell him. That money and snacks were stopped a couple months ago after the guy was chased out from around here. But my son who has not telling me for a couple months until he told me this morning. I have to go to college now and will not be online for tonight but I will read the suggestions in the morning. Lemme know what else to tell him or to show him. I get freaky worry now. He's only 9 and should know better. :(

Sounds like your son needs to go stand in the corner for awhile and think about what has happened. If you know any LEO's in your area make (which you say you do) make contact with them and ask them to come talk with your son. If his school has a school resource officer make contact with him/her. I'm glad "Steve" is no longer around to tempt your child, but this situation has danger written all over it. I would also speak with the school guidance counselor about your son and ask them for advice on how they can help with enlightening your son to the dangers. If you PM me with your name and address I will gladly send you materials we use in our agency for this very problem. It targets children in your sons age bracket and you may find it helpful.

Kick his ***, that might help.

At first glance I would say whack him (of course lovingly), but in this specific situation that may backfire.

After having some LEOs talk to your son, if he continues to accept gifts from "Steve" tell him he won't be getting any dessert at supper and increase these consequences for each subsequent time he does this again.

    ---This is farfetched---

Try setting up a scenario where a person comes up to him in a car, and says...

'Hey little boy, do you want some money? Or some Candy?"
See how your son responds, and if he gets into the car the driver can speed off and tell your kid "IM KIDNAPPING YOU!!".

Let your kid get the crap scared out of him, and then have the "Kidnapper" return him.

He'll never accept money/candy from anyone for the rest of his life.

Then again he might need to start counseling, and be scarred for life, but like I said, this was a farfetched idea.

Possible, maybe not the best of ideas though, since it may drive the behavior underground. Having your kid side with the possible molestor AGAINST the parent would be a very bad thing. Since you are HELPING the possible molestor at that point.

I was thinking along the same lines as TPD....matter of fact, I seem to recall some daytime TV show doing something like that.

Honestly, I dunno how you feel about it, but I do know the way my parents would handle it. I got the talk about the strangers and what not. But if I ever took any candy or money from them, I'm pretty sure my parents would probably have whooped my ***.
