Possibility of war with Iraq and police forces

I am just curious as to what thoughts members of this board might have about the possibility of war with Iraq and how that will affect the country's police forces with the possible call up of reserves etc...

How would that affect hiring and morale when active reservists are called to duty leaving their respective depts.?

The reserve call up will hit the smaller departments hardest. It takes almost a year to hire and train a new officer. For that time period, a small department will be working LOTS of overtime to provide adequate coverage for their community. For the most part officers will bear the burden, and the extra pay quite well.

After 9/11, one of our guys re-up'd in the coast guard. He will be getting his orders any day now for deployment.

It FUBARs me, because now, I'm the #1, and I just got handed a bunch of additional jobs to cover by the chief.

I am fully supportive for his being called to active duty. It will be rough filling the duty roster, but in order to assist in a payback for bin-laden, I will handle it on this end.

I just had a meeting with a few of my reseves. I will have them job share to fill the vacancy until our full timer returns. Full timer isnt concerned though...he will be making about a grand more working for uncle sam than our dept.!

....as is usually, and unfortunately, the case with most mid to smaller sized departments.
