Just a bit of advice I have from a traffic stop I made the other night. I thought this would be common sense but I figured I'd post it for the civilian half of this site:
1. Don't go through a stop sign at 40 mph when a police car is the only other car sitting at the intersection.
2. Don't smoke a "blunt" while driving and leave your window open so you cover said police vehicle with marijuana smoke as you drive by.
3. When said police vehicle illuminates their overhead emergency lights (you know, those silly blue and red lights), Pull over to the right hand side of the road and stop.
4. Do not swerve back and forth across the road looking for a place to stop for the next mile while you try to stash your blunt.
5.After making a sudden stop into a driveway on the left side of the road, do not immediately jump out of your car with your hands in your pockets and try to hide behind a sign.
6. When the police officer points his gun at you and tells you to take your hands out of your pockets, don't just ignore him and pretend that you weren't driving, and that you have no idea who he is talking to.
7.When the cop tells you to get back into your car, just do it. Now is not the time to explain your civil rights and how you'd prefer to just walk off down the street.
8. When the cop finds the large bag of marijuana, individual packaging, scales, and cash in the car after removing you- don't ask him why you are under arrest...it should be obvious.
9. And finally...yes, you will be getting a ticket for running the stop sign in the first place.
And...for those of you that haven't seen it, download and watch Chris Rock's video "how not to get your *** kicked by the police". It is humorous, informative, and pretty much right on the mark. It should be a mandatory watch for anyone issued a drivers license in the area I patrol.
