    John,

Thanks for the tip. I had thought of that, in fact, a former student of mine was a CHP officer and I got to go on a ride-along with him and his partner. It was really fun, I'd love to be a CHP guy. I don't think I could live at the academy away from my wife and soon-to-be newborn. I've heard they are hard up for pilots though.

Michelles, I called SB and they said that if I didn't turn in my background packet on time then I'm considered disqualified and would have to wait 6 months to retest. I was a bit bummed. I took the Riverside written on yesterday and am sure I passed, but they send them up to Sacramento and back so I have to wait 3 weeks for results.

    Congrats on the new baby!
Riverside is nice too from what I have been told.
I think their pay is higher also.

Keep in mind, if you are looking at OCSD, I hear from my buddies that work there, that you can plan on spending approx 7 years in the jails.

Do some serious first hand research before you commit to a department. You will be there for quite a while. Better to take your time and choose right now, versus looking to lateral several years from now.

7 Years in the jails?? Holy crap. Last I had heard was a minimum of a year in the jails but could be up to three years. I don't think I could stand 7 years working in a jail, I'd be itching so much to get outside and patrol.
