Another fine "benefit" of police work.

it's winter. everything is supposed to be dead. i chased a guy through an apartment complex yesterday and we ended up in a creek. i was fortunate enough to find the only POISON IVY plant and stick my arm in it. i wish i'd known then. i'd have rubbed my arm all over this guy's face when it was over.

hydrocortisone isn't working. i'm allergic to it so my arm is all jacked up looking now. this sucks. :(

for christmas, i would like a bottle of industrial strength calamine lotion.

Leaves of three, let it be.
Sometimes those old sayings have a bit of wisdom in them.

Poor guy, you should call up your family doctor and get a prescription to relieve of the itch. Esp if you are having a allergic reaction.

    P.S. Fun fact:
Poison ivy is in the same family as cashues, which is why it is very expensive to harvest them.

go to the doctor and get a shot. clears it rights up!! just make sure you're not allergic, one of our guys did that , had an allergic reaction and passed out at the wheel of his new police unit!! right into a lightpole. it isnt really funny, he wasnt hurt, but we sure do give him hell about it!

My hubby found out two interesting things when he had poison oak- first off, the fancy expensive caladryl didn't help a bit but a cheap little bottle of old-fashioned calamine lotion worked wonders! Also found out that if you're alergic to the cortisone, it can make you swell up in the ODDEST places! I won't tell you where, use your imagination!!

I agree, I had the worst case i've ever had this summer (I mowed a patch up and the wind blew it on from head to toe). the doc gave me a shot and some cream and it was clear in days.. the itching stop almost immediately!!

i went in a week later since my arm was beginning to swell up. i turned it in to our workers comp so they would have to send me to a doctor. we got busy and i didn't get to go, then the next day, the swelling went down, the itching went away, and it's almost all cleared up.

When my brother was in the Marine Corps, he had some stuff that stopped and prevented the "itch" instantly. I'll see if he remembers what it was.

Hubby is apparently super-dooper allergic because everytime he gets it they have to give him some type of steroid that clears it up. Has anyone else ever heard of this type of treatment or is my hubby harboring some hidden vices? :p
    Just kidding.

Sorry to hear that you got the itch! Itching and stuffy noses rank high on my list of "things that irritate the #*!$? out of me"!

    Island-Girl,
Cortisone is a steriod, just a low dose one.
I had a doctor once that gave me a steroid to clear up an infection I had that recurred. He ended up having to give me more potent steriods to clear up my lungs. After a while I became immune to that, and ended up in a world of hurt because nothing would touch it.
I don't know how often he gets poison ivy, but I'd be careful with the steriods!

Wow...you learn something new everyday. Thanks for that new piece of knowledge Stump. Cortisone is a cream that you rub on right? I have never used it. Hubby had to take an oral steroid, the kind you have to slowly introduce to the system and then gradually wean yourself off. He's had to do that two seperate times in his life. He's usually pretty careful about coming in contact with the stuff.
Thanks again for that info, I really had no idea that cortisone was a steroid. Wow. Hahaha...dang I lead a sheltered life. I'm actually really impressed. How sad am I???:p
