Support Police Officers In The State of Pennsylvania

From the Pittsburgh FOP site:

"Eliminating residency requirements are not about economics, community or race. It's about family, safety and doing what is right and just. It's about freedom and democracy. To some, it's about the underlying abomination of our police officers . Why is it, that legislation was passed eliminating residency requirements for teachers, who greatly outnumber police officers in this state? And now, for the sake of family and safety, some are so opposed to eliminating residency requirements for police officers." Isn't anybody concerned about this?

Some Legislators are so concerned that eliminating residency requirements will hurt our cities and towns and their residents. Why were they not so concerned when they quickly and overwhelmingly approved raising our state income tax?

We ask that you support our police officers. We ask that you take time from your busy schedule and show our police officers that you stand with them and support their families with this important family issue.

Can't, it says residents of PA. I think residency rules are BS.

As long as I make it to work on time, they don't care where I live. In 19 yrs, I have never failed to arrive at work on time ( sometimes 2 hrs early during a blizzard). I live about 6 miles outside of my jurisdiction.

It's a matter of personal freedom, IMO. As mcsap said, as long as I can make it to work on time and be there at after a reasonable time on call outs, it's none of their business where I live. I've never lived in Portland where I worked. Not because I was afraid, but I didn't like the city government. Just because I work for them shouldn't waive my civil rights to live where I please. Hope the petition works.

I hope it works too, retdetsgt. I have quite a few friends in the PPD - some that I would consider very good friends, and one who is just phenomenal. For their sake (and those in Pittsburgh as well), I really hope the officers can finally end all of this long, drawn-out nonsense.
