    Gear help, esp from Coasties.

The duty belt thread got me to thinking, We've been trying to get around the problem of marine use for quite sometime, your typical police duty belt is a drowning waiting to happen. It snags items in the boat, cannot be quickly secured or removed in an emergency, interferes when handling lines, isn't too water resistant, and you only have to lose a magazine overboard once to get rightly pissed.

Does anyone know of a lightweight (keep in mind it gets into the 100's here) tactical style vest that could be modified for boat and jet ski use? Ideally it would either mount the radio to the front or between the shoulder blades, have the ability to accept a holster, and be compatable with a type V PFD. Anyone have any suggestions?

My idea would be to wear the sidearm and radio (the expensive stuff) on the vest. That way if I have to dump all the other gear (cuffs, asps, Streamlight etc) in case I end up in the water, (Intentionally or not) I can do so.

There are several tactical/load bearing vests out there that will accept firearms, and most all have ablity or pouchs for radios. I never had one in the CG because they didn't approve those, we just wore nylon web gear and if you ended up in the water you had to just kick harder or unbuckle the belt and let it all go. Look around the internet for load bearing vests and you'll find a lot of them.

I bought a Tactical Vest Cover from The Vest Man and they are the only company I have ever found that makes a totally custom vest. So they can actually design your tactical vest cover any way you want with any pockets you want. They also have a Codura Nylon material that they use that is waterproof that would be perfect for your water based needs. They have a website you can check out at thevestman dot com and they are based in Los Angeles.

See what happened? If you had taken a second to update your thread way back when and share with solution with your online partners, I wouldn't have needed to add this pic:
