me and my friend are next in line to go from jail to patrol ? about the academy

I work for the local county sheriffs dept, Me and my friend started at the jail together (because that job came up first it is not a requirement for patrol)and now it seems they want us to go to patrol in january, I would like to know about the academy, I am worried that if I do take the job in patrol and then I fail the academy I will be out of a job, I did pass the academy for the jail but it was alot shorter then patrols, I think there is like 6 months. So if people can post there thoughts and expriences it would be helpful Thanks a lot
