    In the process

Hello. I am new to the forum. I am in the process of getting ready for the "real world". I live in Michigan (about an hour west of Detroit). I am graduating from college in April with a B.S. I am also attempting to get on the LAPD. I am going to attend the out-of-town testing in February. I am looking forward to starting the application process? I noticed that there is a few of you who have tried for LAPD. I would greatly appreciate any advice or comments about the LAPD.

I'd recommend that you do your "homework" and research to be certain the LAPD is what you want and where you want to be. AND, to best prepare yourself for your trip there to do the out of town application process.

If you were not aware, they have an excellent web site with TONS of information available to aspiring LAPD hopefuls like yourself:

For the record: No, I have not, nor have I ever, applied to the LAPD or lived in the LA area. I have often consistently heard that the LAPD is a recognized front runner in modern day policing methods BUT,..... like most other large municipalities, LAPD has it's share of serious problems and issues plaguing the department.

They've recently got themselves a new police chief who looks to be pretty promising in terms of changes in the department. Perhaps the new chief will help the LAPD return to it's brighter days.

No matter what you decide, best of luck. Again, I'd do your homework.
