    Death Penalty

There has been a big stink the last couple of weeks on whether or not give the Sniper's the death penalty or not. I say fry them. The reason I am bringing this up is because a lot of people argue that they don't want to waste tax money on housing these s***bags for the rest of their lives and to just kill them as quick as possible to save money. But did you know that:

"Capital punishment costs more than life without parole. Studies in the US show that capital cases, from arrest to execution, cost between $1 million and $7 million. A case resulting in life imprisonment costs around $500,000."

This is a direct quote from

    http://www.idebate.org/debatabase/de...sp?topicID=106

Many of you probably knew this but it is something that I just learned. I am amazed at the difference in cost.

I still say fry them. ;)

Interesting fact, Marine. I say fry them, too.

But that fact says "a case resulting in life imprisonment..." Does that mean the cost $500k is up to the point of sentencing? What about the costs of housing the inmate for the rest of his life? Depending on their age at the time of imprisonment, that could be 50 years. I thought I read some time ago the annual cost of housing a prisoner to be averaged at $40k. This would make the final cost of life without parole higher than execution. Does anyone know what the figure actually is?

Then again, those that receive the death penalty end up waiting in prison for how many years before sentencing is carried out? That's also additional cost.

Either way, you can't put a cost on the lives of sniper's victims, and death is demanded here, in my opinion.

Cost should not be an issue in a matter such as this.

I agree...money should not be considered

They certainly are serial killers, so there is no hope they will ever be fit to live outside.
They are lower then the beasts. I don't mean to put down animals but they do not have a sense of right and wrong. I see no difference in this two so called "humans".
These two deserve to pay with thier lifes. Why should they be allowed to continue living when they hurt so many others.

I can not even imagine the loss, senseless and brutal on the families. And though it doesn't compare to this loss they also promoted terror.

To me, I think it should fall under the new "homeland" security since they were terrorist. And under this, for the sake of the whole US they should be done away with.

Your'e right, but the supposedly higher cost of life imprisonment is often cited by death penalty proponents as a reason we should execute people.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the death penalty--proportionally more poor people from minority ethnicities are executed than are middle-class whites, so it's classist and racist. There's also evidence that we have killed a whole lot of people who were innocent of the crimes for which they were convicted.

On the other hand, I'm not a politician. So it's not really my job to decide these things. :-)

That's like saying more upper-middle class people are convicted of accounting crimes and fraud, so THAT'S racist and classist. Better not make anymore capital arrests, right? Wouldn't want to target a single group or anything!

Hmm let's just not arrest more than one person for any single crime to avoid making a trend.

I am shocked that someone at a cop forum would make such an asinine post like that.

A lot of ppl killed that were innocent???

Where do you get this idea, from TV ?
You need to look at real numbers.

Killing a person is a horrible thing to have to do. I don't think anyone takes it lightly. But to state that many ppl on death row, or that have been put to death have been innocent is skewing the facts.

I guess it is like the so many innocent in jail.
I spent one night in jail, and believe it or not I didn't meet a single innocent person.

Geez if you could only have heard some of them talk, you would prolly be buying some extra locks, a good investment, and a few attack dogs.

I would not have wanted to run into anyone of them "outside". And I got this impression in one afternoon mind you, during the short period of time that I was waiting to go before the judge.

Before that I had been by myself. (Thank goodness for that).
I am a felon and even I thought they were creepy.
You just don't know, and I hope you never meet anyone like these ppl. You may think all ppl are like you, not so.

That's not what I mean. Proportionally more black and/or poor people convicted of murder one, for instance, are executed than white people convicted of the same crime.

I'm not talking about a difference in the number of convictions for a particular crime, I'm talking about the percentage of people who are sentenced to death for the same crime.

Anyhow, I don't think the state should be in the business of killing people. I'm the type of person that thinks life in prison without hope of parole and no access to books or a weight room is a much worse punishment than death.

    Death Penalty

having read the posts before, I agree in this case, I hope either the State or the Federal Government gives the death penalty to these two mopes.

Tessone, post does have some merit, but as a minority those who are sentenced to prison chose that path. No one forced them to commit the crimes they were sent to prison for. True there are more minorities sentenced to die, remember they commited they crimes, absence of the color of their skin.

The death penalty is no a black or white issue. ( I am often offended this country makes reference to only blacks and whites for this nation, they seem to forget Latinons, Native Americans, Asians, etc.) The death penalty is about making sure the balance of decent hard people is upheld, when people commit such crimes like the snipers, the Death Penalty is required.

We shouldn't be keeping score to make sure that equal number of any group are being killed. If the person in question was found guilty of committing the crime and the death penalty is called for, then fry them. Better yet, hang them. Better yet, stone them to death. I'm not going to stand there with a clipboard and say that we can't exterminate one criminal because we haven't met our quota for some other ethnic group.

We 're not talking upstanding citizens here, people. We're talking criminals. Some of them deserve something harsher than life behind bars, a luxury they didn't afford their victims.

    Amen tcsd.....

Life behind bars allows these ppl to still have visits with family, still write letters. Not like the family of the victims.
