    Question used license plates

    Hi!

Well there are shops that are selling used american license plates. Where do they get them from? Iīm just wondering. By the way I never saw any shop selling used european car license plates. In many european countries the plates belong to the government so itīs not possible to keep old plates. this may be a reason that you canīt find them to buy. How about the US?

Yes, plates are the property of the State.

There are a lot of people that don't properly dispose of old license plates when their states change plate styles every 20 years or so. So you find older style plates at flea markets and such.

Actually Stump, I believe NYS V & T law actually has a clause that an old car can have the original style plate on it, but it must be the plate originally registered to that vehicle. It's been a while since I read that section, so I'll have to look it up again. Its written so restrictively that I think fairly few vehicles would fall under it.

No, you're right TC, I just didn't say it the right way in my original post. My ex-boyfr owns a 1926 Ford and he was able to order the original style license plate for it, but he had to go through DMV for it. That's how I know, because he made me do all the research.

Yeah, there are a ton of people who don't destroy their old plates (I am one of them), which is really stupid because they still can trace the plate back to you, and why worry about the hassle of dealing with that?

By the way, TC... call me!! I gotta ride again before it starts snowing!!!!!
of course, the next day off I have is the 25th of this month. Are you still on the same shift?

I'm doing range detail all this week. I am gone for a week after Turkey Day..so if you are going to squeeze something in before snow, we need to work a date out quickly. Yes, I am still on days...13 years on 3-11 was enough for me, although I'd still be there if the family didn't need me at night.

BTW, the "any day with a ride-along is a slow day" thing is still holding true. Ran my *** off on Thursday, had a rider on Friday and of course the call load was half what it was the day before! Was still busier than the day you rode though. Any day is busier than that day

I tell every rider about you screaming at the radio in frustration over my crappy dispatchers techniques : )

LMAO... I think about that every so often. Mostly when I am sitting on our Admin channel and NYSPIN is running slow and takes more than 1/2 second to come up with data and the cop is like "Do you have it yet?". I swear, my guys are so spoiled!!!!!!
You should get your butt up here and I'll show you the joint. I was disappointed that we didn't get to see your dispatchers, but we were just SOOOOO busy.
I will clarify though, that its not the dispatchers that are crappy. It is the system they use and the way they are trained.
Can you mail me another form, and next time we talk, we'll figure out a date. You know I hate driving in snow, so I won't be able to decide until closer to that date.

I hear ya. The system is still crappy. The MDT in my car hasn't worked in months, and most of the guys have lost so much faith in them that they've stopped using them. The village PD's have stopped putting the terminals in their cars as they replace them.

The countys solution was to buy a USED system from some supplier somewhere that was taking it in trade from some large PD out west that was upgrading to MDT's that could send and receive mug shots and other graphics. This USED system is admitted to be NO improvement by the powers that be, but because they are getting it at 15% off its original price. they are going to it. What a "deal" Whoopee. We got a 20 page bulletin in our briefing book about this "new" system and how great it was going to be. We should be getting the system that sends graphics and pics, not some system that, given the lifespan of technology, is already out-dated.

I, quite frankly, am pissed. I am abig believer in technology being our friend. The county leaders just want to save a dime. I understand there is a fiscal crisis on, but I'd rather see them spend money...my money...wisely.
